Duties Description The Research Scientist will work in the NYS Newborn Screening (NBS) Program, which screens all infants born in NYS for treatable diseases at birth. A data analysis scientist is required for program quality assurance and quality improvement. The RS will query, manage and analyze data for the program; create and maintain reports; and analyze NBS algorithms, analytes and cutoff values to optimize processes. Optimization is needed, to minimize the chance of not detecting an infant with a screened condition who could benefit from life-saving treatment (false negatives), and to minimize the number of infants who screen positive but are unaffected (false positives), which are significant burdens on the NBS Program, healthcare system (e.g., Medicaid) and families.
