Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
One year of full-time experience as a police or peace officer;
or
One year of full-time experience as a dispatcher for a public safety agency including fire departments, emergency medical services, or law enforcement;
or
One year of active U.S. military service as a dispatcher of military police or security personnel and an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act;
or
Thirty college credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education

Preferred Qualifications:
Possession of a current Security Guard photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State, and one year subsequent building guard experience.

Duties Description Position Summary:
Police Dispatchers perform a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in this 24-hour facility. This is a 24/7, 365 day a year operation and Police Dispatchers will be required to work all days and shifts as required. Dispatchers are required to:

• Process and prioritize incoming calls for police, fire and EMS assistance.

• Provide communication services within the University Police Departments at the campuses of the State University of New York.

• Function as a desk officer, dispatcher, and 911 operator. In this capacity, you may be required to operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio receiver and broadcast equipment, telephone equipment, E-Justice terminal equipment or other similar terminal equipment, personal computers, closed circuit television systems and electronic security systems.
