Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1 and reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 2 list OR in a position at G-16 or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law OR in a position approved for transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades. Candidates reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title will be considered through a canvass and do not need to apply to this vacancy posting.

Duties Description The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Information Technology Specialist 2 to work in the Business Services Group. The incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance and support of SQL Server databases and windows servers.

DUTIES:
• Perform database management responsibilities for production and non-production workloads.
• Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases.
• Upgrade/migrate SQL Server instances/databases to newer versions of SQL Server.
• Ensure databases are being backed up and can be recovered in a timely manner.
• Monitor server activity, error logs, space usage, and resolve problems as needed.
• Apply Service Pack/Hot Fixes on SQL Server Instances to address security and upgrade related issues.
• Create jobs, maintenance plans, scheduled tasks, index rebuilds, alerts, and notifications.
• Use T-SQL & SQL to create stored procedures, tables, views, triggers, and other database objects.
• Document the installation, configuration, and optimization procedures for SQL Server databases.
• Take proactive measures to monitor, trend, and tune SQL databases, such as running maintenance jobs.
• Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms, analyze trends, prevent incidents, and reduce recovery time.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and determine the most effective way to scale.
• Identify potential code defects and enhancements.
• Provide after-hours support for troubleshooting or corrective actions related to incidents impacting application availability within production environments.
• Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience configuring, monitoring, and administering Windows Server.
• Experience working as a Microsoft SQL DBA leveraging versions 2012 or later.
• Experience automating SQL Server deployment and configuration through PowerShell.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Experience working in Microsoft Active Directory.
• Experience with VMWare and vCenter Server.
• Experience managing storage.
