Duties Description

Supervise a unit of up to eight Children and Family Services Specialist (CFSS) 1s and one Fire and Safety Representative in the Division’s Rochester Regional Office. This individual will also work with Home Office Regional Office Support Unit staff and Legal staff on the coordination of enforcement actions; oversee complaint investigations; assist the Regional Office licensing staff in regulatory and statutory interpretation; provide ongoing technical assistance to the child care provider community and the public at large; oversee family day care and school age registration contracts and handle special tasks for these contracts. Additional duties include, preparing reports and statistical data requests related to licensing and registration as needed; participating in special projects, assignments, and work groups as requested by senior staff; and, providing overall general support of the regional operations.

The Children and Family Services Specialist 2 is responsible for understanding and conveying all applicable statutes, regulations, and policy directives to subordinate staff. This position is also responsible for representing the Regional Office at various meetings, trainings and on committees and would also be expected to provide office coverage in the absence of the Regional Manager.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:

All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees.

2) All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees.

3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
