Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Keyboarding proficiency is a minimum requirement of this position. Candidates who have not previously held a keyboarding title must pass a 5-minute typing session and must achieve a speed of 30 words per minute (WPM) with at least 96% accuracy in order to meet the NYS DCS keyboarding standard.

Candidates reachable on the Civil Service Eligible list(s) will be canvassed. However, you may also apply if you are eligible for appointment by one of the following qualifications:

70.1 TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS: An employee with one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualified title allocated to a Grade 6 or higher may transfer pursuant to Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

55b/c QUALIFICATIONS: NYS employees with one year of permanent non-competitive service pursuant to Section 55-b/c of the Civil Service Law may be eligible for a new 55-b/c appointment to this position if they meet the technical requirements for transfer pursuant to Civil Service Law §70.1 as stated above. Please provide a copy of your 55b/55c letter when applying.

Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:

As an Office Assistant 1 Keyboarding in Labor Standards, the incumbent will provide office support and perform more complicated clerical tasks. The incumbent will:
• Gather, compile, and prepare data from manual or automated files and other sources for various reports, publications, records, or other external or internal communications.
• Respond to questions concerning the operation of the unit or program area.
• Write responses to correspondence.
• Resolve work problems.
• Review forms and applications and make appropriate determinations.
