Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Associate Attorney (G-28); OR a NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at Grade 23 or above with current NYS Bar Admission and eligible for transfer to Senior Attorney under Sections 70.1 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. (Candidates requesting consideration for transfer must also be a graduate of an accredited law school with a LLB or JD degree, and may also need to meet additional experiential conditions to qualify for consideration.)
Duties Description The Associate Attorney will be responsible for assuring quality and consistency of legal opinions provided to Department Program staff; supervising Senior Attorneys on issues related to Programs for which the Associate Attorney has developed particular expertise; providing training to Bureau personnel, including Senior Attorneys and other Associate Attorneys, on Program-specific legal issues with respect to which the Associate Attorney has developed particular expertise; reviewing and analyzing high-profile legal issues before the Bureau; working with Department Program staff to draft and review regulations; working with the Office of the Attorney General on legal matters; and representing the Bureau at meetings with the Executive Chamber, DOH committees, and meetings with other agencies.
Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate must have strong legal skills, be able to work as a member of a team, have demonstrated good decision-making skills, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and must have the ability to handle high-volume activities in a dead-line driven environment. The ability to organize and prioritize a high volume of tasks is critical. The preferred candidate should be a highly motivated individual interested in working in an active legal team environment addressing public health issues.
