Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
The selected candidate must have:
Either 1: a bachelor’s degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing AND two years of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media;
OR 2. a master’s or higher degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism,
broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing AND one year of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media;
OR 3. six years of the experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in graphic design

Job Summary:
This is a full-time, temporary, hourly position in Albany, New York. The Public Information Specialist 1 is a PEF bargaining-unit represented position that offers an hourly payrate of $28.77 with excellent benefits. Benefits include NYS Pension Plan membership, inexpensive health insurance options, and generous paid time off.

The Department of Agriculture and Markets is conveniently located near the Albany International Airport at 10B Airline Drive, Albany NY 12235. Employees at this location enjoy ample free parking, close proximity to Wolf Road and Central Avenue, and easy access to I-87.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Public Information Specialist 1 will work within the Public Information Office and will have responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Creating informational materials concerning agency activities; writing, editing, and distributing press releases, briefings, brochures, and other publications

• Participating in various activities related to, or in support of, the agency’s public information program, including assisting with the planning and executing of press conferences and other promotional events

• Assisting with media inquiries

• Maintaining and updating the agency’s website and social media channels, including creating content

• Assisting supervisor and other agency officials in planning, executing, and evaluating the public information program
