Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be employed by New York State to be eligible to apply for this position.

Candidates must have permanent status as an Office Assistant 2, Grade 9, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the Grade 9 level.

Effective December 10, 2021, all employees whose job functions require them to visit hospitals and/or other health care settings and interact directly with patients and patient care staff must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.



Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill an Office Assistant 2, Grade 9, position in the Division of Forensic Services, Bureau of Sex Offender Evaluation and Community Treatment, Risk Assessment and Record Review (RARR) Unit. As a result of MHL Article 10, the Bureau is responsible for coordinating and conducting the multi-disciplinary risk assessment and clinical review of individuals who have been convicted of a qualifying sex offense and who are approaching the end of their criminal sentence to assist in determining whether civil management is appropriate. The Bureau also oversees and monitors the implementation of programs to manage treatment of individuals who are released to Strict and Intensive Supervision and Treatment (SIST) in the community, as a result of the Article 10 process. The incumbent of this position will provide clerical support to the Bureau Director, RARR Director, and other professional staff within the Bureau. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Request records from other state agencies, courts and local municipalities to be used by clinical staff during the Article 10 review process.

Organize and scan records as they are received, follow up on missing records, and coordinate record reviews with the clinical staff to begin the Article 10 process.

Complete all ad hoc record requests submitted by Bureau clinical staff such as, but not limited to, disciplinary tickets, criminal justice records from other states, military records, and family court documents.

Ensure that all records are received, processed, and scanned into the Bureau’s electronic record system (SOMS).

Create, organize and maintain Bureau files.

Photocopy, scan documents and mail records.

Generate reports for Bureau management.

Process and dispose of confidential information consistent with use and dissemination agreements.

Provide phone coverage, as needed.
