Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s Degree and two years of professional research experience in the area(s) of child welfare, criminal justice, psychology, social work, sociology, program evaluation or other related field, OR

Master’s Degree in Social Welfare, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics or other related field, and one years of professional research experience in the area(s) of child welfare, criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, program evaluation or other related field.

Duties Description The Research Scientist 1 position will work within the Bureau of Research, Evaluation, and Performance Analytics and will assist in a range of analysis, reporting, and evaluation activities within the Community-based Prevention Service Evaluation Unit.

Under supervision of senior research staff, the RS 1 position will engage in research evaluating the quality, performance, and effectiveness of a statewide home visiting program for expectant and new parents. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Developing and implementing evaluation and research designs.
• Organizing, documenting, and monitoring project activities and communicating effectively with the research team and program/field staff to facilitate accurate and comprehensive data collection.
• Engaging in hands-on data collection activities, including administration of surveys, focus groups, or coding case files.
• Extracting, preparing, reviewing, and analyzing data from administrative and program databases.
• Conducting analyses using excel and advanced statistical programs (SPSS) to address research questions, including pivot tables, measures of central tendency, univariate analysis, and multivariate data analysis.
• Preparing drafts of technical reports, research briefs, infographics, and presentation materials for dissiminating research findings.
• Advising program areas on issues related to research, evaluation, and performance monitoring under the guidance of senior staff.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:

1) All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees.

2) All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees.

3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
