Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Transfer Opportunity: Have permanent status as a Coordinator of Volunteer Services, Grade 18, and be eligible for transfer;
OR
Be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. To qualify for 70.1 transfer, candidates must have at least one year of permanent status in a title approved for transfer by Civil Service within two salary grades of the Grade 18 level.
OR
Provisional Opportunity: You must have had three years of experience administering an organized volunteer services program in which you had primary responsibility for the recruitment, training, orientation and supervision of volunteers.
Substitution: A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for up to one year of experience.
1. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following educational practices. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to the Examination Information Desk of the Department of Civil Service for a list of acceptable companies who provide this service. You must pay the required evaluation fee.
2. Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience, which can be verified, will be accepted on a prorated basis.
Duties Description As a Coordinator of Volunteer Services, you would plan, organize and direct the volunteer services for facilities and community-based programs. You would determine the need for volunteer services and recruit, train, refer and assist volunteers according to their abilities and interests. You would work in a community relations capacity to stimulate community interests by addressing various local organizations and civic leaders in order to inspire active participation in volunteer services. You would plan and develop activities such as concerts, celebrity visits, and special projects.
Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
This position is eligible for a downstate adjustment of $3,026.
OMH hospital employees must be fully vaccinated or willing to become fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Candidates who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may not start working until two weeks after their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
