Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State and board certification in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Eligible for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs.
AND
Psychiatrist 3 (Forensic)
Two (2) years of post-board certification professional experience as a member of the psychiatric staff of a psychiatric hospital and/or in the psychiatry department of a general hospital. One (1) year of this experience must have included the clinical supervision of other psychiatrists, psychiatric residents or fellows.

Certification in Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
Duties Description As a Psychiatrist 3 (Forensic), you will function as a Director of Psychiatry with over-all administrative responsibility for a major treatment component organized to provide the full range of patient services. You will be responsible for ensuring that treatment programs are planned, organized, and conducted according to patient needs, and supervise, consult with, and serve as a resource to facility medical staff, including but not limited to team leaders and psychiatrists. You will be expected to serve on a variety of committees and provide reports as needed.
Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
OMH hospital employees must be fully vaccinated or willing to become fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Candidates who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may not start working until two weeks after their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Psychiatrist 3 (Forensic) - $295,470

If appointed, you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
Continued employment as either a Psychiatrist 3 is dependent upon current licensure and registration by New York State to practice medicine and certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Loss of licensure and registration may result in removal from employment.
