Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver's license required.

Duties Description OPERATING NEEDS:

Ability to perform journey-level work in one trade and skilled and semiskilled level work in maintenance, repair and installation tasks in a University setting including but not limited to plumbing, electrical and carpentry; ability to troubleshoot heating and cooling equipment; ability to use a variety of hand and power tools (table saw, band saw, jointer and other tools); experience in repairing door locks, set up for door installations, and repair of faulty hardware; ability to troubleshoot, repair and install commercial and residential hardware; experience in appliance installation; knowledge of underground sprinkler systems or ability to learn; basic mathematical skills and blue print and schematic literacy required; ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 100 pounds, carrying ladders and materials; ability to work in areas of heat and cold (indoors and outdoors), working from ladders, scaffolds and lifts, work at heights 35'+ and in confined spaces; plan and execute assignments with considerable independence, work overtime as required for emergencies and campus events, including use of a variety of snow removal equipment; ability to work with a computerized maintenance management system; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass a fit test; ability to determine repairs and replacement of equipment, plan work, organize apprentices and helpers with materials and equipment for projects and maintain stocked inventory of materials required; Valid New York state driver's license required.
