Part-Time (50%) Position. Schedule based on 20 hour work week. Must be available to work Rotating Shifts, including Days/Evenings/Nights/Weekends and Holidays on rotation. Will be responsible for switchboard activities, which include, but is not limited to: Fully understanding the telephone software Amtelco, backup phone system on the digital phone and its digital display and messages in order to answer calls accurately, immediately, and in an appropriate manner. Will be required to tactfully and courteously provide information to and answer questions from other staff, agencies, patients, and the public while using a voice quality, grammar, and diction such that the caller can easily understand the information being given. Will need to have a clear understanding of the purpose and use of the available reference materials used in determining the nature of service required and successfully connecting/directing people appropriately. Is necessary to be able to read, understand, and interpret campus/departmental regulations, procedure manuals, and policies as they pertain to all shifts with particular emphasis placed on the calm, accurate, immediate response to emergency situations using established guidelines. Will assist in the various departmental clerical aspects of the job in order to keep reference material up-to-date and accurate using a PC, manual methods, etc. Will submit Telephone trouble service via e-mail at ccphones@upstate.edu, Use the Telephone Agent software phone system to look up the necessary information for the Hospital Information Desk and staff. Will assist and help train other Office Assistant 1 operators, in procedures and methods. Excellent communication skills desired.  

Minimum Qualifications The NYS Department of Civil Service has developed the NY HELPS program. During this program, the NYS Civil Service Exam requirements are suspended for the Office Assistant 1, SG006 title.
