Job Specifics
Duties Description The Training Associate will support the establishment and management of a Training Institute under the Accessibility Unit, New York State Board of Elections. This institute will be responsible for creating and implementing a certified poll worker training curriculum and a train- the-trainer program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop Curriculum:
Create training materials and programs for certified poll workers, focusing on key areas:
Serving a diverse electorate.
Professional delivery of voting services.
Providing assistance to voters with disabilities and those with limited English proficiency.
Ensure the curriculum follows industry-proven training methodologies.
Train-the-Trainer Program:
Oversee the development and implementation of a train-the-trainer program for New York State’s 58 county Boards of Elections (57 counties and New York
City’s Board of Elections covering the 5 boroughs).
Ensure each county Board enrolls at least two trainers in the program, who
will become and maintain certified poll worker instructor status.
Monitor and manage certification processes, ensuring adequate numbers of
trainers across all counties.
Oversight and Management:
Provide continuous oversight to county Boards of Elections to ensure proper
enrollment, participation, and maintenance of certified trainers.
Manage and support the seamless operation of poll worker training within
county boards, ensuring adherence to curriculum standards and program
requirements.
Promote Voter Participation:
Foster an environment within the Boards of Elections that promotes active
voter participation and engagement.
Ensure training programs emphasize inclusivity, accessibility, and professional
voter assistance.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Monitor the implementation of training programs across the counties, ensuring
high-quality, consistent training is delivered statewide.
Regularly review training methods, update curriculum, and integrate best
practices in election management.
Perform other tasks and matters as may reasonably be assigned.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the professional development of poll workers and trainers, contributing to a well-managed and inclusive election process in New York State.
Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of related experience in training or other related experience; or an Associate degree plus four (4) years of related experience in training or other related experience; or at least six (6) years of related experience in training or other related experience.
