Job Specifics
Duties Description Summary:
A full-time Supervising Janitor position working Monday – Friday, 6am – 2:30pm , with Friday/Saturday pass days. Position oversees the work of the custodial staff, ensures that buildings remain clean and that all maintenance concerns are responded to in a timely manner. In addition to scheduling staff members, Supervising Janitors track inventory, ensure equipment works properly, and is repaired or replaced as necessary.
Major Responsibilities:
Event Coordination
-Monitor scheduled events in assigned buildings and actively communicate with customers to provide for routine and special event needs.
-Coordinate with lead janitors for scheduling and planning of all staff cleaning assignments and special event setups.
Computer Use
-Use online work order system to initiate and monitor completion of work orders for cleaning staff and as requested for maintenance staff.
-Review and approve employee time records on a bi-weekly basis, schedule and track employee time-off and manage planned and unplanned employee absences to minimize disruptions to operational needs.
Supervision
-Regularly inspect employee’s assigned areas in all supervised buildings for compliance with cleaning standards. Instruct employees in proper cleaning techniques, standards and assignments.
-Ensure that cleaning tasks are maintained through the re-assignment of staff to cover absences and personally assist as needed.
-Observe the work of all supervised employees, maintain notes on observations, conduct periodic written inspections of their areas and complete annual evaluations of all supervised employees based on observations throughout the year.
-Mentor all lead janitors in carrying out their responsibilities.
Manual Labor
-Perform moderate to heavy physical labor and lift up to 40 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications You must hold or have held the title of Supervising Janitor on a permanent basis or be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you will receive a canvass letter via email. You must record your response via NY.gov and follow instructions in the canvass email.
