Job Specifics
Duties Description Duties include but are not limited to:
• Research, develop, and administer federal grants.
• Assist in the development of the State Highway Safety Strategic Plan and Annual Report.
• Evaluate GTSC grantee applications for compliance with Federal and State guidelines and make recommendations for funding.
• Evaluate the management, control, and administration of approved projects to assist in assuring compliance with federal grants. This includes travel for on-site monitoring of projects.
• Coordinate and present highway traffic safety public information or education programs.
• Review, analyze, and make recommendations regarding complex or sensitive proposed legislation concerning highway safety issues.
• Research traffic safety, and driver safety education programs utilizing electronic resources.
• Other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications To be eligible for this position, you must meet one of the following conditions:
1. Eligible for appointment from the Highway Safety Program Representative, G-21 eligible list
2. In a Highway Safety Program Representative, G-21 position eligible for reassignment
3. For NY HELPS appointment*: Either 1. Seven years of full-time, paid experience in planning, researching, developing, operating, and/or analyzing highway safety, public safety, public health, or other public information programs;
Or 2. an Associate's degree AND five years of the experience described above;
Or 3. a Bachelor's degree AND three years of the experience described above;
Or 4. a Master's or higher degree AND two years of the experience described above.
*This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means NO EXAMINATION IS REQUIRED, but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, WITHOUT HAVING TO TAKE A CIVIL SERVICE TEST. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Additional Comments Hours of the position will be discussed at the time of interview, including questions regarding Flextime, AWS/Compressed work week and Telecommuting.
