Job Specifics

Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking candidates for a(n) Office Assistant 3 (Calculations) position in the Financial Administration Office. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Revenue processing - entry and/or approval in SFS from checks, wire transfers, shared email box, via Regular deposit, SFS journals, etc.;
• Refund processing;
• Assist in the reconciliation process of the Cash Advance account;
• Assist in the reconciliation process of the Bad Checks for the Sole Custody
• Account including all associated reports;
• Peachtree data entry and associated reports;
• Supervision of subordinate staff; and
• Assist with all office functions of the Revenue and Reporting Units as needed.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a(n) Office Assistant 3 (Calculations).

Eligible List Appointment Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-12 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must be a qualified employee of New York State and one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a clerical, keyboarding, or paraprofessional title allocated to Grade 7 or higher. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Office Assistant 3 (Calculations) when it is next offered, and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.

NOTE: The Civil Service examination for this title was held on October 26, 2024. In order to be considered for a provisional appointment, you must have sat for the Office Assistant 3 (Calculations) examination.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This will be a permanent or a temporary provisional appointment. Provisional candidates must have sat for the most recent examination for Office Assistant 3 (Calculations) and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $66,634 based on annual performance advances.
