Job Specifics
Duties Description Thruway Maintenance Supervisor 1 is the first supervisory level; Effective communication with supervision and subordinates, helps develop requirements for the more critical maintenance projects; may independently supervise work on maintenance projects requiring specialized skills; and applies a broad range of tools and techniques across the major maintenance functional areas.
Schedules and/or assists in scheduling maintenance staff for shift work, plans, schedules, and monitors’ work.
Reviews daily timecards, prepares and/or reviews probationary reports and attendance records on all assigned employees.
Evaluates and rates the work performance of individual employees pursuant to the annual performance rating program, conducts counseling and/or recommends further action as required.
Arranges work activities to coincide with general equipment repairs and preventive maintenance schedules and ensures that all maintenance equipment is in good operating condition.
Directs mowing operations, vegetation control, installation and repair of safety appurtenances, pavement repairs, crack and joint sealing operations, bridge maintenance program and bridge repairs, and the maintenance and repair of signs, fencing and delineators.
Trains or assists in training personnel and developing appropriate safety and work performance standards.
Minimum Qualifications 1. TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS FOR CURRENT STATE EMPLOYEES: Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Bridge Painter 1 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.
2. GENERAL PUBLIC AND/OR NY HELPS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in the construction, rehabilitation, or maintenance of paved highways, streets, roads, bridges, or similar transportation facilities.
OR
An associate degree can substitute for two years of specialized experience; a bachelor’s degree can substitute for four years of experience; a master’s degree in a related field can substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate in a related field can substitute for six years of experience.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION:
The salary range for this position includes all applicable annual components of pay which are:
Base Pay: $60,144 - $84,541
Recruitment & Retention Pay: $7,000
