Job Specifics

Duties Description The CJPA2 ensure compliance with the Racial and Ethnic Disparities (R.E.D.) component of the Juvenile Justice Reform Act. Activities include, but are not limited to:

• Provide technical assistance to localities in the development and implementation of R.E.D. reduction activities.
• Provide training to localities and state partners on issues related to equity.
• Develop and enhance tribal connection and relationship.
• Explore the intersectionality of girls’ justice and race/ethnicity to identify the gaps and needs for the population.
• Develop the R.E.D. annual plan, submission and implementation.
• Enhance the trauma-informed approach to include historical race trauma to ensure an equity lens in implementation.
In addition to the R.E.D. activities required above, the CJPA2 provide policy and funding recommendations to the New York State Juvenile Justice Advisory group. Additional activities may include, but are not limited: to the development of essential partnerships with state and local partners to advance youth justice reform initiatives; programmatic oversight of JJAG and other federally funded youth justice projects and initiatives; provide technical assistance to grantees with workplans, program implementation, performance measures, and program outcomes; represent DCJS on various interagency boards, taskforces and workgroups; and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Eight years of experience in juvenile justice, criminal justice or child welfare systems. A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, Black and Puerto Rican studies or a closely related field may be substituted for four years of experience. A master’s or higher-level degree in one of these areas may be substituted for an additional year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have a close cultural and social association with Asians, Blacks, Hispanics or Pacific Islanders which demonstrate sensitivity to, and insight into, the problems, concerns and needs of one or more of these groups. (classroom education is NOT deemed to be qualifying)
