The Office of the New York State Attorney General’s Public Integrity Bureau (PIB) is seeking an experienced prosecutor for its Real Estate Enforcement Unit in New York City. REEU investigates and prosecutes cases involving the theft of homes from their owners (deed theft), mortgage fraud, short-sale fraud, tenant harassment, and related frauds committed upon city and state agencies, private citizens, and not-for-profits. As part of OAG’s Criminal Division, REEU includes attorneys, detective investigators, auditors, and analysts who conduct complex, long-term criminal investigations and prosecute cases from charging through conviction. REEU attorneys also engage with the public and not-for-profits in detecting and prosecuting all real estate related crimes. PIB Investigates and prosecutes public corruption crimes committed by public employees, elected officials, candidates for public office, and people and entities that steal from the government. REEU attorneys are also assigned to PIB cases.

Minimum Qualifications Attorneys must have a minimum of five (5) years of New York state or federal prosecutorial experience. Applicants should also have substantial grand jury and trial experience, be highly motivated and results-oriented, and possess excellent communication and writing skills. Additionally, applicants who have significant experience investigating crimes and frauds utilizing techniques such as search warrants, eavesdropping warrants, and subpoenas; who have experience interviewing witnesses and engaging cooperating witnesses; conducting forensic analysis of large volumes of data and review and analysis of financial information; and developing and managing complex, document-intensive investigations are strongly preferred. Finally, applicants who have some experience in real estate related prosecutions and/or industry experience are desirable.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York state and be admitted to practice law in New York state. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
