Job Specifics
Duties Description DUTIES:
The Associate Accountant duties in Cemeteries will include but are not limited to the following:
• Supervise Senior Accountants in Albany and New York City offices.
• Review work product prepared by Senior Accountants such as audit reports, recommendations to the Cemetery Board, and rate applications.
• Interview and train staff.
• Participate in field examinations involving larger cemeteries, complex issues, and allegations of misappropriation.
• Participate in reviewing cemetery annual reports.
• Work with Director and Assistant Director on special projects and initiatives geared toward improving the efficiency of audits, review of applications by cemeteries, and other financial functions of the Division.
• Work with cemeteries, local officials, and other Division staff to facilitate special meetings and attempt to avoids cemetery abandonment.
• Prepare policy and training materials.
• Present informational and training sessions on cemetery accounting and financial operations.
• Communicate with the public and cemetery officials concerning cemetery accounting matters, laws, and regulations.
• Review and analyze data from annual reports, audit cycles, delinquencies and deficits.
Minimum Qualifications COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Permanent service in this title or one year of permanent competitive or 55-B/C service in a title SG-21 or higher and otherwise eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law.

55 B/C Appointment:
This position is eligible for 55B/C designation and candidates with 55B/C eligibility are encouraged to apply. Candidates must meet any open competitive minimum qualifications and must submit their current 55B/C eligibility letter along with their application.
