Job Specifics

Duties Description ITS provides operational support to state agencies on a 24x7x365 basis; some positions may be required to provide this critical service at any time.

Under the direction of the Manager Information Technology Services 2, SG-29, within the Chief Technology Office (CTO)/Datacenter Services/Windows and Hypervisor Section, this position will provide direction for staff within the x86 Hypervisor support team. This team maintains the VMware vSphere and Microsoft Azure Local/HyperV environments located at the NYS ITS Data Centers at CNSE and Utica. This position will also manage staff administering vendor cloud configurations and deployments in Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. In addition, this unit responds to incidents involving these servers on a 24/7 basis.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Confers with higher-level managers, subordinates, and CTO architects to develop long-term work objectives, taking into consideration technical, fiscal, and staffing resources;
• Develops and maintains detailed technical plans for areas of responsibility;
• Defines purpose, scope, and objectives of short-term and long-range projects;
• Assigns work to subordinate supervisors. Monitors project progress, reviews major staff initiatives and products, and makes recommendations as appropriate;
• Directs meetings attended by project team(s), ITS management, and CTO staff to discuss specific projects;
• Develops procedures, standards, and internal controls for the conduct of work within this unit;
• Monitors compliance and takes appropriate action as needed;
• Assists the Windows and Hypervisor Manager in the preparation of the unit’s budget;
• Develops or participates in the development, interpretation, review, and communication of ITS policies, procedures, and standards;
• Analyzes the impact of proposed policy and legislation as they pertain to the x86 Hypervisor unit;
• Ensures unit staff stay current on required ITS training;
• Keeps abreast of new technologies and innovations in Cloud Service arenas for use in planning with CTO architects and staff development activities;
• Performs the full range of supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as a Manager Information Technology Services 1 (Systems Programming), SG27/M2, OR in a position at the SG25 or M1 level or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades or one M-grade.

If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.
