Job Specifics

Duties Description Performs the full range of supervisory duties over subordinate social work staff; and plans, develops, implements, and evaluates social work programs and services. Determines social work program priorities, goals, and objectives; and develops and monitors policies and practices to ensure consistency with regulatory requirements, agency policies, professional standards, and other relevant laws, rules, and regulations. Oversees administrative and reporting functions, including fiscal, human resources, program statistical reports, and other support services; prepares budget requests for the social work program; and participates in the recruitment and selection of social work staff. Develops competency-based assessment tools and establishes staff performance standards. Reviews and evaluates clinical documentation and the ability of social work staff to assess and treat individuals, determine the quality and appropriateness of treatment and interventions provided to individuals, and ensure that documentation meets professional and regulatory guidelines. Evaluates the educational needs of social work staff and ensures they maintain continuing education and licensure requirements.

Minimum Qualifications Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must be a current New York State employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Licensed Master Social Worker, SG-20, and must have a license and current registration as a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State.

Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 21 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 and or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law to Social Work Supervisor 1.

Preferred Qualifications: Long Term Care Experience is preferred

If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the appointment to this position, a permanent appointment may be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To be eligible, candidates must be an employee of the Department of Health Veterans Home at St Albans and have one year of permanent competitive service as a Licensed Master Social Worker, SG-20; and must have a license and current registration as a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State.

The posted salary range includes $4,000 of downstate adjustment.

This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
