Job Specifics

Duties Description The Laboratory of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry (LINC) Environmental Trace Elements Section is a fully accredited laboratory responsible for analyzing environmental, food, and cannabis product samples for various inorganic contaminants including toxic metals, arsenic species, and lead in paint, soil, and dust wipes. A Research Scientist 3 is needed to provide technical and scientific support for the complex instrumentation used in the essential analyses which include inorganic mass spectrometry, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, atomic emission spectrometry, and microwave-assisted sample preparation. The incumbent will also supervise section staff and manage the research and development of new methods utilizing latest technologies.

Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences, AND four years of professional post-degree research experience* in the appropriate field

*Substitutions: a master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and a doctorate in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: A PhD in Chemistry with a focus on trace element analysis and two years of related experience; experience with trace element analysis and ICP-MS; experience with microwave-assisted digestion for trace element analysis; and experience with X-ray fluorescence.
