Duties Description Summary:
University Police officers enforce all NYS and local laws and the Student Code of Conduct on the grounds of the SUNY campus. Charged with full police powers under Criminal Procedure Law, section 1.20(34)(s), and are responsible for the performance of the full range of professional police duties. Will assist other local, state, and federal police officers with investigations and may collect evidence, question witnesses, or testify in court in connection with alleged criminal actions.

Major Responsibilities:
University Police officers enforce all NYS and local laws and the Student Code of Conduct on the grounds of the SUNY campus.

Full performance level: works under the general supervision of a University Police Officer 2, must be able to work alone and exercise independent judgment in performing duties; substantial contact with the public and other law enforcement personnel; may direct Campus Public Safety Officers, Security Services Assistants, or student workers.

Minimum Qualifications You must have taken and passed a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position. If you are on the NYS Civil Service eligible list for this title, you will be canvassed via email.

Candidates must meet established physical and medical requirements for appointment to the position, must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted NYS motor vehicle license, and must be legally eligible to carry a firearm and complete all requirements for certification as a police officer in NYS.
