Duties Description Summary:
The selected candidate will work closely with the Director of Student Health Services, one full-time, and two per diem Nurse Practitioners to address the medical needs of SUNY Cortland students. Student Health Services provides primary care to the student population. This is a full-time, forty hours per week position, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Major Responsibilities:
Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis
• Physical Examinations: Conduct directed histories and perform physical exams for students seeking acute medical care at the VanHoesen Hall office.
• Diagnostic Testing: Order, perform, and interpret laboratory and radiological studies required to reach an accurate diagnosis.
• Diagnostic Planning: Formulate tentative diagnoses and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
• Prescriptive Authority: Write prescriptions in strict accordance with New York State privileging guidelines for Nurse Practitioners.

Patient Management & Coordination
• Patient Education: Inform patients of clinical findings and provide instruction on pathophysiology, medication adherence, and self-care measures.
• Consultation: Collaborate with the supervising Nurse Practitioner Director regarding unusual or complex cases where a second opinion is required.
• Referral Services: Direct patients to local specialists, hospital emergency rooms, or primary care physicians when specialized care is necessary.

Compliance & Professional Standards
• Confidentiality: Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and institutional standards.
• Cultural Competency: Deliver medical care in a culturally sensitive manner to a diverse student population.
• Certification: Ensure all professional credentials and CPR certifications remain current and up-to-date.

Minimum Qualifications • Open Competitive: certification and current registration as a Nurse Practitioner in a specialty practice area by the New York State Education Department.
• Bachelor’s in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• Must maintain NYS RN license and registration.

Preferred Qualifications:
• National certification as a Nurse Practitioner such as American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
