Job Specifics

Duties Description The New York State School for the Blind is seeking to fill a Facility Operations Assistant position. The Facility Operations Assistant performs a variety of routine manual tasks, requiring medium to heavy physical effort. They may also assist in operations by performing routine activities; may frequently work outdoors in inclement weather; may use hand tools and operate motor driven equipment.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
There are no education or experience requirements for this position. Candidates must be physically able to perform the duties assigned, including the ability to perform activities requiring medium to heavy lifting. Candidates must also possess a valid New York State driver’s license.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of valid New York State driver’s license will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. Continued employment as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 is dependent upon maintaining a valid New York State driver’s license. Failure to maintain a valid New York State driver’s license will result in removal from employment. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant’s fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. This will be 12-month position. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday 9:00am-5:30pm.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $44,828 based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
