BASIC FUNCTION:
Work with New York State companies to help them export their products and/or services abroad.
WORK PERFORMED:
• Work with New York State companies to help them export their products abroad; provide one-on-one counseling services and referrals to other export resources
• Promote STEP funding and the Global NY Fund to companies and partner organizations, through in-person meetings, public presentations, etc.
• Assist in the administration of the Global NY Grant Fund
o Review applications and assist with eligibility review and intake
o Present to the Project Review Committee
o Work with Loans and Grants to ensure timely reimbursement of awards
• Establish and maintain contact with Regional Offices, bi-national chambers of commerce, the U.S. Department of Commerce, local Chambers, and other appropriate individuals or groups to obtain information concerning trade opportunities and trade shows.
• Organize Global NY trade activities and provide support to other staff-led trade missions; recruit eligible companies; help clients apply.
• Represent Global NY at public events and initiate events in your territory that are export-focused; speak at export events per year and hold Global NY events throughout your territory.
• Serve on a Global NY fund review committee at least once per year; read and analyze applications for completeness and participate in the approval process.
• Maintain current files on relevant New York State tax incentive and financing programs, labor supply data for various industries and other location factor information obtained from ESD as well as other State, Federal or local government agencies, chambers of commerce, labor unions, trade associations, public utilities, etc.
• Work with the Global NY foreign contract offices to increase exports by New York State companies
o Disseminate New York State marketing materials to potential exporters and visiting foreign delegations
o When requested by the foreign contract offices, contacts representatives of local firms, banks, trade associations, governments, etc., to develop/provide information when such contact is deemed relevant to a specific potential trade project.
• Conduct presentations related to specific Department services and promote and publicize the overall economic development programs offered by the Department of Economic Development in the region(s).
• Log input and reporting to Department’s CRM system.
• Provide export technical assistance to New York State companies on relevant technical issues of the export process such as export compliance, supply chain, logistics and trade finance.
• Conduct international trade workshops/webinars to educate companies on relevant export related issues.
• Undertake special projects and initiatives on an as needed basis
Minimum Qualifications Education Level required: Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Business Administration, Public Administration or Finance.
Experience required: 5+ years of relevant trade experience. Understanding of New York State government, geography and culture encouraged; Familiarity with NYS assets preferred.
Knowledge required: Must be a team player with the ability to liaise and build rapport with
colleagues across functions and set priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of activities or job duties. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office.
