Job Specifics

Duties Description This position will coordinate Division of Fish and Wildlife programs and actions related to promotion, outreach, communication, and marketing designed to overcome barriers to broader relevance, public engagement, and support from all beneficiaries including traditional stakeholders. By reaching a broader cross-section of New Yorkers, this position will help both the Division and conservation will be more relevant, valued, and supported.

Incumbent will be responsible for:

•coordinating communication and outreach campaign activities between DFW programs and bureaus to increase efficiency and reduce redundancy in efforts.

•developing, evaluating, and implementing outreach and public relations efforts relating to fish and wildlife programs including developing and disseminating informational and publicity materials for various audiences to publicize programs and encourage participation in conservation-related activities.

•developing marketing campaigns and/or communications strategies for high priority division initiatives (e.g., One Health, “R3” for fish- and wildlife-related recreation).

•assisting promotion and outreach staff in each bureau in the development of materials and partnerships to promote their respective programs.

•assisting with setting high priority communication and outreach topics for each respective Bureau Communications Coordinator.

•designing reporting and data collection instruments for assessment of the effectiveness of outreach activities, including developing and implementing electronic databases and tracking programs.

•designing and implementing workshops and other outreach events to explain and publicize programs and to secure participation from stakeholders and assisting bureau promotion and outreach staff with their workshops/events.

•delivering training and providing resources to DFW staff on effective production and delivery of outreach and education.

•serving as liaison between DFW and DCEE to facilitate efficient and effective messaging.

•serving as liaison between DFW and other divisions, state agencies, and NGO partners on matters concerning public awareness of and participation in fish- and wildlife-related programs.

•developing an annual communications and outreach work plan, associated budgets/fiscal plan, and grant proposals, as needed, to support program objectives.

•supervising subordinates, including setting priorities, assigning work, and evaluating performance.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications For Permanent Appointment:

Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
Or

Transfer Eligible: One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 21 or higher and:

Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: One year of permanent competitive service as a Climate Policy Analyst 2, Environmental Analyst 2, Environmental Radiation Specialist 2, Environmental Specialist 2, Forester 2, Public Participation Specialist 2, Public Participation Specialist 3, Sanitary Construction Inspector 3

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.
