Job Specifics

Duties Description The incumbent of this position will report to the Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT) Unit within the Office of Counter Terrorism.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Responsible for supporting a mid-sized IT environment.

• Participate in all phases of system design, configuration, and maintenance.

• Monitor and routinely report on system health and security.

• Document and securely configure switches, firewalls, servers, security appliances, and applications.

• Support, develop, and audit secure system baselines.

• Install, configure, document, and maintain network security systems.

• Perform and test system backups and disaster recovery operations.

• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.

• Identify vulnerabilities and propose mitigations.

• Train staff members on the use and administration of IT systems.

• Work with CIRT management, DHSES procurement teams, and vendors for hardware and software renewals and new procurements, tracking progress.

• Support the other DHSES CIRT cyber programs and ad-hoc initiatives.

• Support cyber security meetings, presentations, seminars, etc., to foster information-sharing and awareness.

• Help develop, deploy, document, and formalize proactive and reactive cyber offerings and initiatives.

• Occasional travel (no more than 20%) may be necessary, depending on assignment demands. Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the Department of Motor Vehicle is required, or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

• Assist in disaster response and recovery activities as required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications NON-COMPETITIVE

Five years of information technology, cybersecurity, or information assurance experience.

Substitutions:

A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field substitutes for three years of required experience; any bachelor’s substitutes for two years of required experience.

An associate degree with 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field may substitute for one year of required experience. Candidates in a bachelor’s degree program with at least 15 semester credit hours in computer science or related field may substitute such credits for one year of required experience.

A master’s degree or higher in computer science or related field substitutes for one year of required experience.

Additional Comments NOTE: Support of operations during times of emergency and disaster from State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), state field offices and/or local deployments may be required, which would result in a change and/or increase in working hours, locations and/or duties.
