Job Specifics
Duties Description Direct oversight of the Bird and Mammal, Herp and Invertebrate Diversity, and Wildlife Health programs. Includes direct supervision of Biologist 1s and indirect supervision of lower level permanent and seasonal technical staff. Prepares employee performance programs and evaluations, oversees staff professional development and training. Develops program plans and budgets, coordinates work plan implementation, and monitors and reports progress on deliverables. Coordinates wildlife research conducted by staff or contractors, oversees federal grants to support wildlife management programs, and coordinates species management programs. This position relates to the health and welfare of the citizens in Region 6 and is critical to monitoring for, and addressing, wildlife diseases, many of which have human health implications (e.g. avian influenza, rabies, etc.). Ensures cooperation and collaboration with program staff in other program areas including nuisance wildlife response and technical guidance, hunter education, WMA habitat management, and big and small game species management. This will include assisting with field surveys and data collection efforts as well as providing technical expertise on habitat requirements for non-game species. The Biologist 2 will co-represent the region on the Bureau Management Team by attending meetings, providing input on overall Wildlife program planning and implementation, and reporting on regional and program accomplishments.
Minimum Qualifications Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or
Transfer Eligible under Section 70.1 - One year of permanent competitive service as a Biologist 2 (Aquatic), (Ecology), (Marine) or (Wildlife), SG23.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
Telecommuting may be available up to 50% of work schedule, will be discussed at interview.
