Job Specifics

Duties Description The Medical Assistance Specialist position is in the Office of Health Insurance Programs (OHIP) within the Division of Health Plan Contracting and Oversight (DHPCO) in the Bureau of Program Implementation and Enrollment (BPIE) and will help ensure Medicaid Managed Care (MMC) plans’ compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements related to member notices and materials including member handbooks. Duties for this position include: completing high level reviews of member communications to ensure plan compliance with contractual and statutory/regulatory requirements; Identifying federal and state statutory/regulatory changes impacting DHPCO; assisting in the implementation and oversight of MMC-specific initiatives; managing multiple Bureau Mail Logs (BMLs); participating in Medicaid program workgroups; and general supervision of assigned staff.

Minimum Qualifications Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Medical Assistance Specialist 2, SG-23, OR; Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service in a title eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 or Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to a Medical Assistance Specialist 2, SG-23.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of NYS Medicaid Managed Care (MMC); strong analytical skills and ability to pay attention to details; ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines; experience reviewing complex materials/documents and offering technical support to external and internal organizations; supervisory experience; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel); knowledge of state/ federal laws and regulations.
