Job Specifics

Duties Description Reporting to the Park Manager 2, SG-21 at Sterling Forest State Park located in OPRHP’s Palisades region, the Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14, supervises programs, staff, and operations. The incumbent will be a working supervisor involved in all aspects of maintaining and repairing park buildings, utility systems, and grounds.

Duties include but are not limited to:
• Train and evaluate staff, schedule employees, develop assignments, provide instructions and assistance, observe work in progress, review completed work to ensure proper utilization of staff, and provide feedback and or counseling when necessary.
• Prepare standard written evaluations of work performance of subordinate employees.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual budget by recommending budget requirements for the facility's maintenance programs including staffing, materials, and equipment needs.
• Inspect Park facilities to determine maintenance needs and recommend projects based on findings.
• Review maintenance requests; visit the project site to confirm the nature and extent of maintenance requested, and determine dimensions, materials, equipment, and labor required to complete the project.
• Communicate with managers and staff regarding project scope and timeline.
• Oversee staff assigned to projects by providing verbal and written instructions including technical manuals, blueprints, specifications, and plans.
• Ensure effective utilization of staff, materials, and equipment at assigned facility.
• Provide support in the preparation, implementation, and enforcement of the preventive maintenance program.
• Observe and inspect work to ensure proper workmanship and the proper use of materials and equipment.
• Confirm that regulations and codes are followed, schedules are met, and work is performed according to plan.
• Maintain written records of work performed, accounting for labor and materials used.
• Implement and enforce safety procedures and standards for all facility maintenance operations.

Minimum Qualifications One year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service and Repair Mechanic (Electronics), Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason and Plasterer), Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber and Steamfitter), Service and Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R), Trades Specialist (Roofing), or Trades Specialist (Welder).

Reassignment Qualifications: Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Maintenance Supervisor 1.

Additional Comments • Must be able to work a variable schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must possess working knowledge of appropriate NYS building and construction code regulations.
• Must have knowledge of worksite and job zone safety requirements, as well as standard procurement practices.
• Must be available for emergency response for storm cleanup and other disaster relief readiness activities.

**Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.

Location Pay:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 14 ($56,506) and the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($68,630) and the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000).
