The ideal candidate will have sound judgment, sharp instincts, be politically aware, and understand the district’s political, economic, and social dynamics. Additionally, the most qualified candidates will possess the following experience and competencies:

An unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, and trust; judgment is your strength. You are able to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and are flexible and adaptable to competing demands. You bring a sense of resilience to the team.

Strong project management skills. You are able to execute and delegate tasks seamlessly, with excellent attention to detail. You have a proven track record of meeting deadlines and motivating your team to achieve results.

Highly developed communication skills (written and verbal) and strong emotional intelligence. You are comfortable in any setting and able to build relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications The Chief of Staff will report directly to the Senator and oversee subordinate staff and the day-to-day operations of the offices in Brooklyn and Albany. As a true first-level manager, the Chief of Staff will ensure that the Senator’s objectives, goals, and projects are met. This is a Brooklyn-based role with frequent trips to Albany during session months from January to June.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Serve as a trusted advisor and partner to the Senator, implementing short- and long-term plans for the 20th Senate District.

Handle confidential information with discretion, adapt to competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of constituent service and responsiveness.

Lead, coordinate, and ensure implementation of the Senator’s involvement with numerous high-profile external organizations throughout the state.

Manage the Senator’s projects on both an ad hoc and ongoing basis; oversee day-to-day work plans, review and contribute to deliverables, and guide both the Brooklyn and Albany teams’ outputs.

Identify and implement evaluation processes, enhancements, and improvements, including adopting solutions to improve team efficiency and effectiveness.

Collaborate with legislative leaders and staff on behalf of the Senator on multiple matters.

Communicate on behalf of the Senator with internal and external stakeholders.
Develop and implement employee expectations, deliverables, and strategic goals, including organizing and monitoring community events, town halls, and related engagements.
