Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications 1. Four years of experience performing engineering technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; or as a surveyor or drafter;
OR
2. Graduation for high school (or possession of a high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized education authority or a USAFI GED diploma high school level) AND one year of the experience described in option 1 above;
OR
3. Graduation from a high school technical education program in technical aeronautics, technical architectural drafting and building construction; technical chemistry, industrial chemistry, technical electricity/electronics, technical mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems or computer circuitry;
OR
4. Eighteen college semester credit hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering; such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and/or sanitary; public health; environmental and/or engineering technology; drafting; mathematics; surveying; computer science, environmental science; and/or the natural and physical sciences.

Duties Description -Assists in developing, reviewing and evaluating environmental chemistry data, assessments and summary reports and entering data into Agency databases.
-Participates in environmental media sampling and data management for water quality studies and extent of contamination assessments to determine pollutant sources & loading to lakes, tributaries and public beaches.
-Conducts field surveys from land & boat for fish & wildlife habitats, populations of native & invasive species, and research into applicable management measures.
-Participates on teams conducting on-site shoreline assessments, desktop analysis, and conceptual design of nature-based demonstration projects or coastal process evaluations.
-Researches, compiles, organizes environmental data, reviews databases, identifies data gaps, etc.
-Prepares GPS/GIS maps, graphic representations of environmental data, photo documentation, etc.
-Maintains field sampling equipment, logs, supplies, etc.
-Develop or update written procedures related to assigned duties.
Additional Comments Preference for:
-Ability to follow prescribed procedures with close attention to detail
-Ability to travel overnight on occasion
-Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Arc/GIS and GPS technology
-Knowledge and application of statistical principles and data analysis software
-Knowledge of freshwater ecosystems and proven experience with collection, taxonomic identification and evaluation of benthic sediments and/or aquatic organisms.
-Understanding of fundamental coastal processes including; erosion, sediment transport and shoreline ecosystem functions.
-Ability to read and interpret engineering design drawings, Quality Assurance Project Plans, and relevant academic research journals.
-Successful experience working independently and on project teams.
-Good verbal communication and writing skills.
-Valid Drivers license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
-Physical ability to work outside in varying weather conditions and difficult terrain, to lift 50 lbs. and to work in boats.
-Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
-This is a temporary position with a duration of 1/1/18 - 3/31/18. This position will be extended if sufficient funding is available.
