Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications In order to be considered for appointment, candidates must be reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made. If you are appointed provisionally, you will have to take and pass the next Civil Service examination for this title when it is administered. Employees appointed provisionally must be reachable on the resulting eligible list for that title or their employment in the position (may have hold item) will end.

The minimum requirements for taking the Open Competitive examination are:

Either

1. five years of professional experience in the field of occupational safety and health, building design relating to fire codes or Insurance Underwriting relating to fire safety and building codes. College study in industrial safety, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety and health may be substituted for up to two years of experience at the rate of 30 semester college credits equaling one year of the experience;

Or

2. a bachelor's degree in industrial safety, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety and health and one year of the experience described above.




The minimum requirements for taking the Promotional examination are:

Three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Agency Safety and Health Representative 1.

Duties Description The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:


• Supervising the Agency Safety & Health Representative 1.

• Developing, updating, and conducting safety training programs, such as supervisor safety training, Management Safety Seminar, Work Zone Safety, as well as other pertinent training, based on Regional needs and supported by data management.

• Providing managers with information to assure compliance with OSHA regulations, via OSHA Compliance Training, OSHA/PESH Facility Inspections and Uniform Fire Prevention & Building Code training.

• Conducting field visits, on-site inspections, accident investigations, meetings and discussions with managers, supervisors, and employees, such as work zone inspections/reviews, facility inspections, serious accident investigations, etc.

• Analyzing data to identify trends or areas of concerns in which to concentrate training awareness programs, by gathering, compiling, and analysis of data, preparation of periodic statistical reports, preparation of special reports, and processing, reviewing, and following up of injury and vehicle accident reports.

• Managing the Region's comprehensive health, safety and accident prevention programs.

• Developing Regional policies and procedures in conformance with applicable regulations and informing managers, supervisors and employees about Department and Regional safety policies, procedures and regulations. Travel, including overnight travel, is required.

• Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
