Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list, or;
Candidates holding a permanent, competitive position of Associate Attorney, Grade 28, or other title appropriate for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law may be eligible for transfer.

Duties Description The position of Associate Attorney will be assigned to the Special Funds group within Financial Services and will encompass but not be limited to the following duties: Generate, and communicate internally and to third-party administrators and vendors, specific guidelines for various Fund administration tasks, including, but not limited to, reimbursement request review. This may include weekly/monthly reporting requirements and the creation or review of general policies. Schedule and/or attend phone conferences and in-person meetings with stakeholders and internal staff as needed or pursuant to a schedule, to ensure cooperation, answer questions, and provide guidance. Meet with internal staff where appropriate and as needed in order to aid with housekeeping issues (e.g. communication concerns, hearing schedule, etc.). Attend hearings, write or review memos, appeals, rebuttal, settlement and other documents involving Special Fund claims as required. Review written submissions and decisions. Propose and deliver legal arguments as required. Provide prompt, detailed responses to inquiries in effort to resolve any claims administration, settlement, reimbursement, or contract administration issue that arises. This should include drawing upon knowledge of the workers’ compensation law in order to assist parties by providing a resolution or suggesting a plan for resolution. In consultation with supervisor and other internal staff, develop plans and procedures for reimbursement request review, third-party administration contract oversight, settlements, and Fund management. Review, prepare, and/or edit documents relating to the transfer and future administration of Fund claims. Prepare agendas and other written items to report the progress and plans for Fund claims. Provide an overview, and specific information as needed, of any issues to be addressed. Assist staff, providing guidance and training and resolving issues/questions that cannot be resolved by staff. Prepare or assist with preparation of reports, summaries, or other similar documents upon request. Supervise staff in a manner that makes good use of their existing abilities and assist when necessary. Complete all employee performance evaluations and probationary reports in a timely manner. Monitor and approve requests for leave for staff, as well as reviewing of time sheets. Assist supervisor, and keep supervisor informed of significant issues. Assist other staff within the Special Funds group with tasks as needed. Assist with any special projects as assigned.
