Duties Description This position is assigned to the Bureau of Legal Affairs, Employment Law Unit and Information Technology Law Unit. The Bureau of Legal Affairs is charged with providing legal advice and guidance to the Agency. As part of the Bureau of Legal Affairs, the Employment Law Unit (ELU) provides legal advice and guidance to the Agency in the areas of discrimination law, reasonable accommodation, and labor and employment law. As part of the Bureau of Legal Affairs, the Information Technology Law Unit (ITLU) provides legal advice and guidance to the Agency in the area of technology.
The incumbent will handle a large variety of paraprofessional duties, will need to work closely with the professional staff of the Bureau, and of other Agency offices, and handle a variety of assignments professionally. The incumbent will be required to work cooperatively with a large variety of personnel both inside and outside the Agency (at other Agencies, the Executive, the legal community, and the private sector). Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Additionally, the incumbent must be able to use Microsoft Office with ease, as well as the various tool utilized by ELU and the ITLU on Sharepoint.
Specific Responsibilities are:
-Track ELU and ITLU assignments and data, create attendant reports for management.
-Receive, review and track complaints in the ELU. Create attendant reports regarding these complaints for management.
-Prepare and edit draft correspondence and other documents.
-Create and maintain filing system.
-Prepare and edit policies and procedures.
-Maintain calendars for professional staff and schedule meetings, conference calls and hearings.
-Contact hearing officers, facilities, court reporter, attorneys and witnesses to determine availability and to schedule New York State Section 72 hearings. Facilitate all administrative aspects of the holding of the hearing.
-Provide phone coverage in ELU and ITLU.
-Maintain an understanding of the areas assigned to ELU and ITLU, and provide operational input.
