Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journeyman, which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in the trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-by-year basis. Candidates must be physically able to perform duties assigned. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is required.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Blind in Batavia is seeking applicants to fill a General Mechanic position. Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Install new circuits, wiring, lighting, power speakers, and strobes;
• Perform repairs and maintain knowledge of emergency power equipment and components;
• Perform repairs and maintain knowledge of the fire alarm system and components;
• Perform repairs using electrical testing equipment, including amp meters;
• Lay out work projects, set up areas for new construction, and work with contractors;
• Order supplies and equipment; and
• Assist maintenance staff as required.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of experience will be required for all candidates at the time of interview. This will be a permanent, non-competitive, 12-month appointment.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $52,039 with annual performance advances.
