Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description Implement USFWS regional monitoring protocol for bog turtles. Conduct rattlesnake den surveys and cricket frog habitat research. Assist with implementation and planning of habitat improvements for rattlesnakes on state lands. Incumbent will also conduct outreach to landowners, generate maps of habitats, conduct other related surveys, enter data from surveys, and assist with writing reports. Familiarity with HERP and vegetation survey techniques a plus. Incumbent will at times assist with all other aspects of the wildlife program, including other endangered and threatened species surveys, emergency responses to wildlife situations, hunter-killed deer data collection, entering data in GIS, and answering questions from the public over the phone and in person, including questions about nuisance wildlife, and hunting and trapping. This position starts on or after October 1, 2018. Job could be extended based on funding and performance.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 35 pounds.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration of 10/1/18 - 3/31/19. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed in duties description. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
