55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.

Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligible): Bachelor's or higher degree with 24 credits in biochemistry and/or chemistry.

Duties Description Serve as an analytical chemist for the Analytical Services Unit at Hale Creek Field Station.
The primary duties include:
Analyze fish and wildlife samples using gas chromatography/electron capture detector (GC/ECD) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for PCBs and organochlorine pesticides.
Maintain laboratory equipment at optimal working condition.
Prepare and maintain laboratory SOPs.
Ensure that the appropriate quality assurance/quality control measures are implemented and consistently followed.
Interpret and prepare data reports for the Analytical Services Unit Leader.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40-hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.
