Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description Assist access biologist with tasks that enhance and manage access for hunting and trapping on state owned and other public lands. Survey public use of state managed lands for wildlife dependent recreation, and identify access needs as related to hunting and trapping. Experience with hunting or hunting related issues as well as use of ArcGIS is preferred. This position will also assist in delivery of the game bird management program. Additional responsibilities as related to game birds include; conducting population and breeding surveys to evaluate and support decisions on hunting regulations, participating in federal banding operations, assist waterfowl/turkey biologist with preparation of reports and season setting documents. Assist with other wildlife surveys, provide information on Department regulated recreational activities to the public, as well as data management and reporting.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overnight travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

The anticipated end date of the position is 03/31/19. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed in duties description. Work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview. Weekend and holiday work is required from November through January. The position also requires early morning and evening work. No housing is provided with this position.
