Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Laborers must be physically able to perform the duties assigned.

Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course is preferred. Experience working with heavy equipment and/or Farm machinery is preferred. You must have valid driver’s license, Class B CDL is preferred, or willing to obtain one which will require drug and alcohol screening.

Duties Description This position is needed to assist in multiple program workplans and maintenance of state properties. Under the direction of an Operations Supervisor, the Laborer will be expected to perform a variety of routine manual tasks. These include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain grounds, roadways, waterways, and trails.
- Clean grounds, roadways, and structures by sweeping, raking, shoveling, mowing, and removing by hand debris, leaves, branches, snow, ice, trash, etc.
- Maintain areas by cutting grass, cutting and removing dead branches and trees, placing mulching materials and stone, and fertilizing and watering plants and grass.
- Install and maintain fences, guide rails, signs, walkways, and snow fencing.
- Build and maintain forest roads, dams, levees, and flood structures.
- Dig and excavate ditches and paths.

Assist skilled and semiskilled trades workers by performing the more routine manual tasks of a trade, such as:
-Clean, lubricate, and maintain machinery, equipment, gears, cables, and tools.
-Carrie and hold materials and tools.
-Lift and place equipment, ladders, and scaffolds.
-Remove materials preparatory to repair and construction by using jack hammers, sanders, paint strippers, and other hand tools and equipment.
- Mix and apply concrete, mortar, paving materials, paints, and other substances.
- Replace fuses, light bulbs, washers, faucets, and shelves.
- Make minor repairs to buildings and structures.
- Operate and maintain motorized equipment and machinery.
- Operate lawn mowers and plows to maintain grounds, parking lots, and walkways.
- Operate tractors and related equipment to maintain flood projects.
- Operate tractors and trucks to pick up supplies and trash.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

These are seasonal, hourly appointments with an anticipated end date of 3/31/19. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed above. Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
