Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications A master’s degree and five years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field and three years of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Doctorate in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Psychology, or related fields and five years of relevant post-graduate research experience. Candidates for this position should be interested in the characterization of neural circuitry in the brain using a translational scientific paradigm; have an extensive knowledge of the conduct, coordination, analysis, and publication of imaging analysis studies; and a track record of developing computational models of circuit mechanisms and reinforced learning.

Additionally, the candidate must have the following:

• Extensive knowledge developing of computational models of
brain circuitry.
• Expertise in EEG data and source localization.
• Programming experience in at least one of our preferred
languages (Python, MATLAB, R, C/C++).
• Prior experience with machine learning theory and exploratory
statistical analysis.
• Experience with one or more brain stimulation methodologies.

Duties Description The Research Scientist will work within the Center for Biomedical Imaging and Neuromodulation (C-BIN). The division is a nationally recognized leader in the application of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques to the understanding and treatment of psychiatric disorders. The Research Scientist will be expected to take a multidisciplinary approach to his or her work, drawing from a range of disciplines (e.g., neuroscience, molecular biology, network modeling). The incumbent will use a combination of imaging (e.g., EEG, intracortical laminar recording, diffusion MRI, functional MRI, morphometry MRI, spectroscopy MRI) and neuromodulation techniques (e.g., brain stimulation, chemogenetics, optogenetics) to delineate and test circuit-level models of brain function.

Specific responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
• The development of grants and contracts that further the
mission of the NKI and OMH.
• Computational Neuronal Modeling of sensory, motor and higher
order networks
• Model based development of pharmacological and electrical
neuromodulation methods. Development/refinement of
methods aimed at deciphering functional and effective
connectivity in electrophysiological and neuroimaging datasets.
• Data analysis.
• Manuscript preparation.
• Conference presentation.
• Mentoring and teaching junior faculty and staff.

Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
