Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description Incumbent will assist in all aspects of wildlife diversity work being undertaken by the Wildlife program in Region 4. Duties include: conducting surveys for New England cottontail, wintering raptors, forest and grassland birds, marsh birds, eastern whip-poor-will and assisting with data entry and data summarization related to work on these and other projects. The ability to identify northeastern bird species by sight and sound and experience in the use of GPS, GIS and Excel is preferred. Experience in recording vegetation measurements in the field and identifying habitat types from aerial photographs is desirable. This position involves travel from the office to study sites and will require long days and frequent early morning or evening hours.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required.
Seasonal, hourly appointment ending no later than 3/31/2019. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to 3/31/2019. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements will be discussed at the interview.
