Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Either 1. An associate’s degree in physical education, recreation, recreational therapy, or a closely related recreational field* AND two years of experience directing or assisting in the direction of scheduled, organized recreational program;
Or 2. A bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, recreational therapy, or a closely related field*;
Or 3. A bachelor’s degree AND two years of experience as described in #1 above.

*Qualifying closely related field degrees (for the 2/6/16 exam) are: athletic training, exercise science, kinesiology (athletic training), kinesiology (physical education), kinesiology (sports management), movement and science, recreation and leisure studies, recreation education, recreation management, sports management, or therapeutic recreation.

Duties Description As a Recreation Program Leader 1, you would plan and coordinate organized discretionary time activities for offenders in a facility of NONDOCCS. This would include developing and directing a comprehensive recreational program of athletic and non-athletic activities; assessing the interests of the offenders; developing procedures for and monitoring all activities to ensure compliance with established directives; soliciting offender and community involvement; providing instruction in officiating at activities; preparing written reports; maintaining records of participants, programs, and equipment; responsibility for issuance repair of equipment; supplies; conducting tryouts; selecting teams, officials; coordinating tournaments and other events.
