Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have a minimum of five (5) years of medical malpractice and trial experience. Trial experience and the ability to manage a large caseload are essential. Superior lawyering skills, including legal research, writing, analysis, negotiation and advocacy, are also required. Candidates should also possess excellent organizational skills.
Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the OAG be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General’s Claims Bureau in New York City is seeking an experienced trial attorney to defend Medical Malpractice cases. The Claims Bureau represents the State of New York and its agencies in the Court of Claims and its employees in State Supreme Court. The selected candidate will defend the State in medical malpractice actions, from commencement through trial, with post-trial briefs often required.
Additional Comments Salary to be determined commensurate with experience.
