Current New York State employee with one year or more permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in one of the following titles may be eligible for transfer to the Safety and Health Inspector Trainee, Grade 14:

Boiler Inspector, Grade 14

70.4 TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS:

Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service in a position allocated to a Grade 12 or higher and who has passed the Safety & Health Inspector Trainee exam and has a bachelor’s degree may be eligible for appointment at the Trainee level.

Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service in a position allocated to a Grade 14 or higher and who has passed the Safety & Health Inspector exam and has a bachelor’s degree may be eligible for appointment to a Safety & Health Inspector.

Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:

As a Safety and Health Inspector, you would plan, schedule, and conduct safety and health inspections of selected work sites such as state, county, city, and town offices. Safety and Health Inspectors would also conduct inspections of places of public assembly, ski areas, carnivals, fairs and amusement parks, explosives magazines and power scaffolds, and other window-washing operations. Such worksites may include asbestos abatement projects. These inspections are made in order to assure conformance with established standards, identifying unsafe conditions and work practices, and to protect workers and the public.

As a Safety and Health Inspector Trainee, you would, under direct supervision, receive on-the-job training while performing duties similar to those described for the Safety and Health Inspector. Upon satisfactory completion of a one-year traineeship, you would advance to the position of Safety and Health Inspector without further examination.

Physical/Medical Requirements:

Your physical and medical condition will be evaluated to ensure that you are able to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. The physical/medical standards include good physical condition and satisfactory hearing and vision. A medical examination will be required prior to appointment and you are responsible for payment of the clinical laboratory test fee. Appointees to this position may be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess their ability to perform the essential duties of the position.

As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
