Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description Currently seeking a wildlife technician to support fisher research, assist with trapping and management of nuisance beaver and muskrat on state properties and carry out winter turkey road surveys. Tasks expected to be performed include but are not limited to: Preparing GIS maps, trail cameras, bait stations and other various equipment for fisher research, fisher field data collection, trapping and handling nuisance beaver and muskrat on state properties, aging and sexing of muskrats, updating and maintaining the furbearer observation report database, entering and proofing data, and data summary, equipment maintenance and repair, orienteering with the use of maps, compasses or GPS unit, and assisting the general public with various wildlife concerns. This position requires close attention to study protocols, excellent organizational skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ArcMap, and the ability to work well in teams. Weekly work schedule is entirely weather dependent, applicants must be willing to flex their work days. This person is expected to be in good physical health and able to work long hours in arduous conditions. They will be expected to hike and snowshoe moderate to long distances on a daily basis, drive state vehicles in winter weather conditions, as well as handle strong and potent smells.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.
The anticipated end date of the position is 03/31/19. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
