Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State Driver’s license required
Duties Description Ability to perform journey-level work in one trade and skilled and semiskilled level work in maintenance, repair and installation tasks in a University setting; knowledge and experience with removing / installing flooring, ceilings, windows and floors; ability to use a variety of hand and power tools (table saw, band saw, jointer and other tools); ability to cut and install glass, and experience with removal of window / door glass and caulk utilizing safe handling practices for PCB / Asbestos Hazardous waste; ability to troubleshoot, repair and install commercial and residential hardware; basic mathematical skills and blue print and schematic literacy required; ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 100 pounds, carrying ladders and materials; ability to work in areas of heat and cold (indoors and outdoors), working from ladders, scaffolds and lifts, work at heights 35’+ and in confined spaces; working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes (OSHA and ADA); plan and execute assignments with considerable independence, work overtime as required for emergencies and campus events; ability to work with a computerized maintenance management system; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass a fit test; willingness to be certified in ACM materials handling including lead, and attend training on new equipment and building systems; ability to determine repairs and replacement of equipment, plan work, organize apprentices and helpers with materials and equipment for projects and maintain stocked inventory of materials required; Valid New York state Driver's license required.
